Fire Hose Reels Explained: Fixed, Swing & Stand-Mounted Types
A fire hose reel is the wound-hose assembly built around a rotating drum, giving building occupants and trained personnel immediate access to a pressurized water stream without needing to connect and charge a hose from scratch. Jaideo Automation supplies NewAge’s Wall Mounting (Fixed) Hose Reel, Swing Type Hose Reel, and Stand Mounted Hose Reel.
How a Hose Reel Works
The hose is wound around a drum that rotates freely, so pulling the hose out unspools it while it stays connected to the pressurized water supply through the reel’s inlet. All three NewAge types share the same core specification: threaded inlet, an outlet that rotates left and right for flexible hose direction, seamless-tube waterways, 150 PSI maximum operating pressure, and 24 LPM flow at 7 Kg/cm2.
Fixed (Wall Mounting) Hose Reel
Permanently positioned against the wall — the standard choice where a dedicated, unchanging reel location works for the space.
Swing Type Hose Reel
Pivots outward from its wall bracket during deployment, then swings back against the wall when not in use — useful where the reel needs to sit flush against a wall for clearance but still needs full accessibility when deployed.
Stand Mounted Hose Reel
A free-standing, floor-mounted unit for installations where wall space isn’t available, or a portable/relocatable reel position is preferred.
Choosing Between Types
| Fixed Wall | Swing Type | Stand Mounted | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mounting | Permanent wall | Pivoting wall bracket | Free-standing floor |
| Best for | Standard wall installations | Clearance-constrained walls | No wall space available |
Where This Fits
See our Fire Hose Types guide for the hose itself (the Rubber Hose, PVC Hose and Thermoplastic Hose are all available), and our Branch Pipes guide for the nozzle end of the assembly. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between fixed and swing type hose reels?
A fixed wall mounting hose reel is permanently positioned against the wall, while a swing type reel pivots outward from its bracket during deployment and swings back when not in use.
When would a stand mounted hose reel be used instead of a wall-mounted one?
A stand mounted hose reel is used where wall space isn’t available for mounting, or where a portable or relocatable reel position is preferred.
What pressure and flow rate do NewAge hose reels handle?
All three NewAge hose reel types are rated for 150 PSI maximum operating pressure with a flow rate of 24 LPM at 7 Kg per square centimeter.
