Description

The York YST is a steam turbine centrifugal chiller, an alternative to electric-drive chillers for facilities with an existing high-pressure steam source, covering 700 to 2,800 TR (2,460-9,850 kW). Unlike York’s electric centrifugal chillers (YK, YZ, YD), the YST is driven by a steam turbine, taking advantage of the turbine’s inherent variable-speed capability to optimize chiller speed across a wide range of leaving and entering chilled-water temperatures, fluid flows, and steam conditions – from 55°F entering to 36°F leaving fluid temperature. The steam condenser is top-mounted, keeping the footprint no larger than an equivalent electric chiller despite the added turbine. This makes the YST the natural fit for combined-heating-and-power (CHP) plants, where it maintains efficiency year-round and reduces reliance on grid electricity for cooling.
